The lake is a meeting point for leisure, sports and fun on the water. There is a well-maintained walkning and cycling trail around the lake. The entire walkway features useful information boards presenting all that is interesting about the flora and fauna in and around lake. While exploring, you can refresh in one of the pubs or sit with your feet up on a waterbench. If your body calls for more than a foothpath, then just take a boat, a kayak, a pedal boat or a stand-up-paddling.

There are two high jumps (25 and 17m high) on the shores of Šmartinsko lake. They invite athletes from near and far. They do trainig and national and interstate competitions in acrobatic diving.

Fisking amateurs will be very happy at Šmartinsko lake. It is one of the largest artificial lakes in Slovenia currently holding the record fort he heaviest carp caught, weighing as much as 34,6 kg.
